The Numerous Uses Of The Zeolite Crystals

Recent research has shown that the use of Zeolite can prevent bleeding, segregation and delamination of fresh concrete so as to make the pumping process easier, decrease the permeability of hardened concrete, enhance durability, increase concrete strength and minimize cracking caused by shrinkage. In response to its successful application the cement industry, the development of a range of new building products are currently under investigation utilizing the unique characteristics of Zeolite crystals, as a carrier agent promoting the ion exchange and an absorption functions, in an effort to solve current problems in building design and construction.

The minerals can be described as nonporous hydrated aluminosilicates with a three-dimensional framework structure. The linked framework combined with its inherent high porosity gives rise to the Twist Road zeolite having a high absorptive capacity.

There are approximately 40 different crystal types and their occurrence depends on conditions during formation. Mines located in the North Island of New Zealand are renowned for the production of clinoptilolite, a notable variation in the crystal group which are young in age and contain unsurpassed absorption qualities. These minerals have been utilized for their unique properties for ionic absorption in many commercial applications. Their large internal surface area allows them to absorb liquids efficiently, with the ability to absorb up to 70% in their own weight as a liquid.

These qualities make the zeolites a perfect solution for absorbing odors, cations from wastewater and as a base for slow release fertilizers. Additionally, these granules, which can be modified to suit specific applications, are an ideal chemical carrier for insecticides, fungicides, pesticides and industrial chemicals. The open crystal structure of the mineral combined with high moisture-holding capacity and high cation exchange capacity, allows the crystals to be used as an active carrier.

It's only your choice: continue to remain toxic or get detoxified with zeolite and other natural chelating agents!

The open high porosity structure of the Twist Road zeolite deposit is due to its young age which is approximately 25,000 years old. In comparison, denser crystals from Australia and Greece are 40-50 million years old. These are therefore heavily compacted due to overburden and time for cementing of the mineral grains.

Due to its properties, they have a lot of important applications in chemical technology, with the range of use ever increasing. One of the most important fields of their application is their use in the process of heavy metal cations immobilization. Natural ones are important aluminosilicates in absorption processes because of their low cost and selectivity. In environmental applications, zeolites have been studied extensively to remove harmful substances from wastewater by adsorption and ion exchange processes.

The crystals include a lot more wide open, much less thick constructions as compared to some other silicates; in between 20% and 50 % in the amount of a zeolite, construction is voids. Silicates also have three-dimensional frameworks of tetrahedra are generally classified as tectosilicates. Aside from the zeolites, some other tectosilicates consist of quartz and feldspars.
