How To Optimize Your Website's Search Engine Performance

By Arianna Dyer

In order for a business to grow and become successful via the web, it must first find a way to market itself and reach the audience it wishes to sell to. To do this, the best method has always been search engine optimization. This is a tricky marketing approach due to all the options that it provides newcomers. Follow some basic strategy guidelines and you will have a higher rate of success.

Giving away free things can help with search engine optimization. The more content that is free, the better chances you have of people linking to your website so they can share the information. Free things are always attractive to people. You can include free tips, software, samples, tutorials, e-books, coupons or even have a contest with prizes. One good on-page SEO technique is to use alt tags to describe all the images on your website. By doing this, search engines will be able to index the images and find your pages. This method also has the added benefit of helping website visitors who are using text-only browsers.

Don't over-stuff your site with keywords as this can be used against you. The search engines look for words located primarily in content. however, having an unnatural amount of the same keywords in the content of your site can actually work to your disadvantage because it will send up a "red flag" to search results to skip as it seems fishy.

Track how well your site is doing by analyzing information from analytic tools. Find out which pages are getting the most traffic and which are getting no traffic at all. Find out what brings them to your site. By studying analytics, you are able to adjust your site to one that visitors come to see.

Review your product line every so often and take some time to trim the fat, especially as you start to grow. If you are doing well on your sites that offer tier 2 and subscription commissions, it may be time to let go of the ones that only offer one time payouts.

Keep your keywords in mind, but create your page for the users. Search engines crawl for keywords but they are not the ones choosing to click on your link. A page title or meta description that is full of keywords without content will keep people from clicking on your link. One of the most important aspects of SEO is simply staying dedicated to the process. You must be vigilant in keeping up to date with new tactics as search engines are known to change their tactics regularly. Also, if you don't regularly modify your site, it will become stagnant and drop in the rankings.

Having relevant, keyword oriented page titles is one of the best SEO strategies. By choosing titles that accurately describe your page you are better able to inform human searchers and web crawlers about the content of your site. This will naturally boost your traffic as people are better able to find your site when they search for your particular niche.

Remember, there just as many ways that search engine optimization can go wrong as there are ways that can tremendously help a website. The previous tips should help you prevent your website being blocked from search engines as well as improve on the size of your audience.
