Can Google Hangouts Replace Webinar Softare?

By Yusuf Abdi

Choosing the right webinar software is not easy. Instead of testing different software and asking your audience to install new software, why not use Google Hangouts instead?

Of course, the number of participants who can participate is limited, compared to most webinar programs where you can have a moderated meeting with hundreds of people. In webinar meetings of any size, the participation from everybody has to be limited, or you would have a 'hodge podge' of conversation from everybody that wouldn't make sense.

This question brings up the first (and largest) drawback of using Google Hangouts as a webinar replacement. You can fit up to 100 people in a single text chat; but only 10 in any single video chat. For your business to reach a good audience you're going to need to be able to broadcast to a LOT more people than that.

The bright side? You can use Hangouts to record a webinar between you and other experts in your niche, package that product up and deliver it to your user base. It can also be used to broadcast to a select few people at once (as a premium service perhaps).

You can experiment with Google Hangouts and see what you think, but for a small get together Hangouts are great and very workable. Also, realize that they can be used for bigger projects as well.
