I'm Always Looking Forward to Hearing from My Collection Agency

By Brent Neenan

Being poor and unfortunate I have developed a special relationship with the collection agency that keeps calling me. It's always the same lady asking for the money I spent on stuff I can't even recall anymore. At first she was real nasty to me and really pressed me to come up with a plan of action. As time went on we actually became familiar with one another and even friends on some level. That never changed the fact that I owed money but I started to enjoy the calls; and why would I put an end to something I enjoy?

There was a time in my life I was afraid of accruing debt. I didn't want to be a dead beat living his life under the thumb of someone else. I've always had a desire for independence and freedom and owing people money is counter-intuitive to those ideas. As I've come to learn though sometimes going into debt is a necessity and unavoidable.

After graduating from school the only employment I was able to find was really only a minimum wage position. I couldn't afford my student loans, basic expenses or even gas to get around. At first my solution was to take out a credit card or two to cover things I didn't have the cash for but that soon got out of control. The bills started rolling in and I didn't have the money to pay it off ever.

Finally this collection agency started calling. Lauren was a real nice lady though. She has a husband and two kids. We talk about everything under the sun from history to horoscopes to life philosophies. I must admit it's pretty great. It's too bad our friendship is based on me owing people money. I almost don't want to pay it off so Lauren has a reason to keep calling but she insists that I devise a real plan to get out of debt.

When all was said and done I was able to quit my job and pay everything off because Lauren told me about the entrepreneurial genius Pat Maser. His concept of directly selling telecommunication services to customers assured that I would be getting paid each time one of the services was in use. Thank you Lauren and that you Patrick Maser; for helping me free myself from debt.
