Domestic Helper Salary-How to Consider the domestic Helper salary

By Alice Sy

The domestic helper salary should come first before anything else. Knowing that you have a budget to hire an employee is the go signal of your helper search. Knowing exactly how much you should pay for the maid is the next issue to rule out and they are determined by the following factors.

It should not go any less than the minimum wage declared by your state. The minimum wage per domestic worker is further determined by the nationality or the country of the maid. For example the Philippines sets the minimum wage of the Filipino maid to US$479.77 in Hong Kong and it is different for Indonesian and Malaysian maids also.

The amount of the domestic helper salary is influenced by the skills of the domestic helper. Usually, the better the skills or the more experienced, the better the pay. Sometimes though new maids who have the same skills can settle for the minimum and would just demand a higher pay along as their experience matures.

It's more about the nature of the job. The helper salary can be unique as your needs. Your home may require minimum, medium or maximum help. Are the tasks you want done at home doable by one helper? Are there kids or pets or many people? Is the home big? These factors add issue to the salary as well.

Whatever domestic helper salary you choose to award your helper, it should fit within your budget. Try to determine the maximum amount you can give or if you can only settle with the minimum only. Since it's your budget, it would have to be your call. What's important is that you can afford it with the specified contract and the maid approves it.
