How much do you know about your favorite social media websites? You may know how to use Facebook, for example, to interact with friends and perhaps push your own business to the next level. With all the accurate information that exists online, there are other pieces of information that, simply put, don't hold up. When it comes to social media myths, there are the ones that a Long Island advertising agency can easily debunk.

"The more followers or fans I have, the more successful I'll be." It's easy to be enticed by a high follower count, but this alone doesn't equate to social media success. Even if you're managing an account with one million followers, you have to still reach out and engage them. They must also be interested in what your company is about. In situations like these, having fewer but more involved fans is preferred. Reputable firms like fishbat will tell you the same.

"If I use social media, I don't need a website." This is another myth that business owners can fall for. However, social media and unique websites fulfill different purposes. On one hand, social media is used to drive content and share content. On the other hand, a website offers more detailed information and, depending on how it's built, can create sales. Instead of favoring one over the other, focus on both to achieve maximum profit.

"I have to be active on every social media platform." The main reason why this is a myth is some forms of social media may be more impactful for your business than others. For example, let's say that you own a restaurant; you may want to show off the various entrees you offer. In this scenario, you may want to focus less on LinkedIn for a more visual platform like Instagram. Being active on every social media platform isn't necessary for results.

"All I need to succeed is social media." While the capabilities of social media in general are undeniable, this isn't the only tool you should rely on. A solid online marketing strategy requires a variety of tools. You're not going to be able to rank without SEO, for example. Without an understanding of web design, your website won't drive the traffic and engagement you're looking for. In simplest terms, social media alone won't serve you as well as you'd like.
